About

About StackBudget

Honest, hands-on reviews. Run by people who pay for the products they review.

What this site is

StackBudget reviews software, AI apps, and gear we use in our own consulting work. We're not affiliated with any of the products we review. We pay for them with our own money (or run them on paid plans). Our reviews are written after at least 30 days of real-world use.

How we make money

When a review includes a link to a product, it's usually an affiliate link. If you buy through it, the product's affiliate program pays us a small commission , usually 10-30% of the subscription cost. This doesn't change the price you pay.

Our editorial picks are not for sale. We don't accept payment for positive reviews, and we say so plainly when a tool doesn't earn its keep.

Full details on our disclosure page.

How we test

Every product on StackBudget has been used on a real project for at least 30 days. For some categories (writing tools, hosting) we run formal benchmark tests against the top 6-9 competitors. For others (note-taking apps, project tools) we use them for actual client work and grade based on what helped or got in the way.

Who runs this

StackBudget is run by a small consulting team that builds SaaS tools, writes content, and helps NZ/AU small businesses pick software. We started the site because every "best of" list we read was either outdated, pay-to-play, or both. We figured we could do better.
